“Oh, you’re one of those people.” I got that response during some small talk with an acquaintance and it got me thinking; Is it a bad thing to be “one of those people”? It’s probably all subjective and dependent on who’s saying it and who it’s directed at, and I don’t want to assume but it felt a little like “one of those crazy fitness fanatics”. But what if you spin it and put a positive connotation on “those people”, what’s it look like then? Now who are we talking about? It’d probably be the people you look up to, the people you turn to when you need help, the ones who consistently exceed our expectations in the best ways. “Those people” would be the good people in our lives. Where can a person find these good people? Where do they hang out? Well, try a church or a local car club, or; and hear me out, a CrossFit gym! I can’t speak much on the first two, but I can tell you first hand the members of CrossFit Minot fit the description of good people to a T. They’re active in the community volunteering for this board and that committee. They’re helping coach and work with kids in sports and camps. They’re always willing to lend a hand or an ear in a tough time. The great majority of our members are finding time to do this all while holding down full time jobs; we’ve got teachers and secretaries, doctors and nurses, electricians and oil field workers, early morning openers and grave shift workers, all getting together to workout alongside one another. Plus, most have families to boot! Makes a person wonder when they sleep. These accolades aren’t the only great things about the members here though. They’re quick to offer a hello with a smile and a handshake to a new face. I’ve witnessed it many times when a veteran member takes a new member under their wing and helps make the path ahead a little more clear. Each one has been there before and knows that fretting lost feeling. But folks catch on and quickly find themselves hanging out telling jokes and stories like everybody’s been best friends their whole life. The more I think about it, the actual working out isn’t as big of piece of the puzzle after all. It’s the people. And I’m incredibly lucky to be surrounded by so many of “those people”. So, if you’re looking to meet a few more of “those people”, stop on in to CrossFit Minot and say hi. And might as well stick around and try a workout while you’re here!

P.S. I’m going to try put out at least one of these blog posts each month. If there’s a topic you’d like me to cover, just let me know! And if you don’t see a post within that month(ish) time frame, let me hear it! Thanks

P.S.S. What is something that you can serve, but not eat??                                              A volleyball!

What is easy to get into, but hard to get out of??                                                             Trouble!

What is a four letter word that starts with a W and ends with a T.                                       That’s not a question, just a statement.
