What’s the hardest part of any of the tough things we do in life? Ask Tom Petty and he’ll tell you “The Waiting” is the hardest part. I’m not saying he’s wrong, I sure don’t like waiting; but too many times just starting is the most daunting step of any process. We know what we have to do, we know it’s not going to be all sunshine and rainbows the whole time, and so we put off starting that unfun, uncomfortable task or process. Pretty soon we’re out of clean dishes to eat off and we have no more clean socks to wear. Starting can be even tougher for any new activity! We’ve never done (fill in the blank) before, we don’t know the tricks, we don’t want to feel out of place, we don’t want to suck at something! But aren’t those tough activities typically the most rewarding? When we have to work for and earn the skills and abilities, not only though time invested but effort, blood, sweat and tears; that’s when we enjoy the fruits of our labor the most!

There are ways you can make the less enjoyable parts of life a little more fun though. Turn them into a game! Set a timer when you’re cleaning the house and race to get it done as fast as you can (while still cleaning properly, of course!). Or do them with friends. Get a group together to help paint the whole house in a few hours. Good friends don’t mind lending a hand, cause there will come a time they’ll need help as well; so don’t be afraid to ask! And now you’ve got a house full of friends telling stories and laughing while hammering out a task that would take one normal person a week or so; doesn’t seem much like work anymore.

Now let’s look at our fitness this way: We know we need to do something but maybe we don’t have a clue where to start. We’ve watched all the Youtube videos and found the perfect home workout, but we don’t know if we’re doing the movements quite right. Then after a couple weeks of this we start getting bored of the same workout in our basement, and so it because less and less of a priority. We miss a day, then 2, then all of a sudden it’s been a month since our last workout.

Here’s where we can help apply those fixes to your fitness routine! At CrossFit Minot, we’ve got it all planned out for you; we’ve got the equipment you’ll need and we’re going to show you how to do the movements properly. And you’ll be in and out of the door in an hour. But the best part is you’ll be alongside like minded individuals who are looking for the same increase in health and wellness in their lives. I’m not going to lie to you and say it’s easy, but learning how to take control of your health and wellness may be the most important “skill” we can develop in our lifetime.

If you’re interested in getting started, but are still a little timid to take that first step, ask us about our On-Ramp program. It’s designed to lay a solid foundation of basic movements and build on that, preparing you for not only demands of any CrossFit class, but everyday challenges! So if it’s time to be a beginner again and suck at something new, hit us up! Plus after this, nothing’s as tough anymore!

P.S. For your reading enjoyment: “One day, Little Johnny’s mom got for lunch to find him setting on the couch watching T.V. ‘What are you doing home already Little Johnny?’ she worriedly asked. ‘Oh, I answered my teacher’s special question right and got to leave school early.’ he answers back, not even looking up from his cartoon. Thinking she’s got a little genius, she asks Johnny what the special question was, and he replies:                          ‘Who threw the trash can at the principles head?’ ”

P.P.S. Sorry if Tom Petty’s “The Waiting” got stuck in your head. I can recommend many other classics that’ll help drive that one out if you need 😉
